A SEASIDE TOWN HOUSE IN THE HEART OF MELBOURNE WAS PURCHASED BY CLIENTS WHOSE BRIEF WAS SIMPLE, THEY WANTED LOTS OF LIGHT, OPEN PLAN LIVING AND A GREAT AREA FOR ENTERTAINING ON A SMALL SCALE. CHRISTINE SAW THE POTENTIAL AND COMMENCED TRANSFORMING WHAT WAS A DARK CLUTTERED SPACE INTO A VERSION OF AN ENGLISH TOWNHOUSE ON CHELSEA CRESCENT IN LONDON.

WALLS WERE REMOVED AND A SMALL TUCKED AWAY LAUNDRY WAS TURNED INTO A BUTLER’S PANTRY; THE KITCHEN WAS KEPT CRISP AND WHITE WITH A MAGNIFICENT RECONSTITUTED STONE THAT REFLECTED SILVER FLECKING AS IT CAUGHT THE LIGHT.  NEW OAK FLOORS WERE LAID, SETTING THE SCENE FOR THE SUMPTUOUS SOFA UPHOLSTERED IN AN EMERALD GREEN VELVET PAIRED WITH TWO OCCASIONAL CHAIRS AND A SIMPLE GLASS COFFEE TABLE. WHAT BEGAN AS A MINIMALISTIC JOURNEY BECAME A FUSION OF STRONG PROMINENT COLOUR.

BUT THE HERO OF THE PROJECT LAY WITHIN THE CLEVER CREATION IN TURNING A SMALL AWKWARD SPACE UNDER THE STAIRS INTO A GUEST POWDER ROOM. RATHER THAN TRYING TO HIDE THE RACKED CEILING CHRISTINE DECIDED TO MAKE A FEATURE OUT OF IT AND DRAWING ATTENTION TOWARDS IT IN A BOLD WAY BY ADDING BLACK GLASS ON THE BACK WALL AND TILING THE WALLS WITH A MARBLE IMITATION TILE, A SMALL WALL MOUNTED BASIN AND A BLACK TAP GAVE THE SMALL SPACE AN EDGY LOOK.
